The government has withdrawn immediately the ban on sending bulk SMS and MMS ,as per the notification issued by the Home Ministry .
The ban was imposed on 17 August 2012, with the threatening reports that bulk SMS were being sent to students in cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad from the North-East cities. It was aimed to check the spread of rumours, which had fueled panic and chaos.
