How to configure Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 to work with SmarterMail?

POP and IMAP is what allows you to download messages from your email servers onto your computer so you can access your mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird, even when you aren't connected to the Internet.

1. Open Microsoft Outlook

2. Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings...

3. On the E-mail tab, click New...

4. If you are prompted to Choose E-mail Service, select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, and click Next.

5. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click on Next.

6. Select Internet E-mail and click on Next.

7. Use the image as an example fill out the requested information to configure POP with your mail client. Enter the values in the Internet E-mail Settings (POP3):

• Your Name: The name you want to appear in outgoing emails
• E-mail Address: The email address you want to appear in outgoing email (e.g.,
  John@yourdomain.com)
• Select "POP3" for account type
• Incoming mail server (POP3): cmail.inbox4.net
• Outgoing mail server (SMTP): cmail.inbox4.net
• User Name: Your full email address (e.g., John@yourdomain.com)
• Password: Your email account password
• Select "Remember Password"

8. Click on More Settings.

9. On the General Tab verify your information.

10. Click the Outgoing Server Tab and select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication check box.

11. Click the Advanced tab, and under Delivery, select the Leave a copy of messages on the server check box.

12. Select one of the following options:

• Remove from server after x days  E-mail messages are downloaded to your computer but remain on the e-mail server for the number of days that you specify. This is the most common setting for people who want to read their messages at work but also download them for permanent storage on their home computer. We recommend that you choose the smallest number of days that suits your needs. The longer you leave messages on your e-mail server, the greater the risk of exceeding your mailbox size quota.

• Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'  E-mail messages are downloaded to your computer but also remain on the e-mail server indefinitely until you delete the e-mail message in Outlook and empty the Deleted Items folder. Just deleting the message doesn't remove the message from the e-mail server.

If you do not select either check box, messages are left on the server indefinitely. You can eventually exceed your mailbox quota, unless you connect to the e-mail server from another computer that has Outlook configured to remove messages from the e-mail server.

13. Click OK, and then click Next and Finish.
