How to view and remove temporary program files?

Windows 98, XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10

If you are running any of these versions of Windows, we suggest running the Windows Disk Cleanup utility to delete temporary files and cleanup other portions of your computer.

See the Disk Cleanup definition for additional information and help.

Steps to be followed to view and delete temporary files:

1. Open the Start menu and type %temp% in the Search field.
(in Windows XP and prior, click the Run option in the Start menu and type %temp% in the Run field).
 2. Press Enter and a Temp folder should open.
3. You can delete all files found in this folder, and if any files are in use, they can be skipped.

After restarting the computer, there should be some improvement in performance because the computer no longer has to load those temporary files.
